Sleeve Tattoo?

I'm planning my first tattoo, which I'm getting on my upper arm. I had quite an large, elaborate abstract design in mind, so I discussed it with the tattoo artist and we agreed to let him play around with the design for a few days. I met with him again yesterday and he'd turned my idea into a really detailed half-sleeve design. He said my initial design was so large and intricate to begin with that it would look better as a sleeve.
I have mixed feelings about this - on the one hand, his design is really beautiful, but on the other, getting a half-sleeve seems a bit extreme. My fiancee doesn't like the idea - she thinks sleeves look trashy - but says it's up to me in the end. What do you all think of sleeve tattoos - yay or nay?

I have a sleeve in progress (about 3 quarters done). My opinion is that some frown on it and some love it but as long as I love it that’s all that matters. Luckily my hubby finds my ink really attractive, but if he was opposed to it I would still have had it done anyway.
Try no to base your decision on what other people think. You will get a mixed response on people’s feelings about the matter anyway.
Take your time in your decision though because it’s a big one that’s kinda hard to go back on should you change your mind. Can you get your tattooist to place a transfer of the design on your arm so you can wear it temporarily for a while and see how it feels?
tatoo.. once drawn on, its hard to remove.. think twice before u act =)… just an advice.. but on upper arm, quite nice
better spend ur money on something else : )
my husband has a half sleeve and it is sexay! If you are a guy, go for it as long as there no flames,roses or anything typical like that. If you are a girl, DONT DO IT!!!! Your tattoo artist is right, you dont want a bucnh of art just piled on one area. But make sure it is the tattoo YOU like not your artist! It is permanent and I wouldn’t want someone Else’s ideas that i did not 110% like on my body!!! And as far as your fiance’, SLEEVES are not trashy, maybe if you had demonic crap all over your arms, but do like one half sleeve, and mayge something on the inside of your other arm to balance it out. NO LEG, NECK,STOMACHS! now those are trashy. Besides, if SHE REALLY loves you and is not controlling, she will eventually get used to them…maybe even like them!
I love sleeve tattoos. I don’t have one but I love them on people especially if it’s just one sleeve.
I love sleeves! If it’s really a beautiful design your fiance will learn to love it too! Sometimes it’s a you have to see it “on you” to appreciate it. Plus, it’s not a whole sleeve, so it’s not that bad. My first tattoo took up half my calf, and I have no regrets!
Sleeves are the best type of tattoos in my opinion. You know what they say… go big or go home!
Buy a thin long sleve t shirt, tight fitting skin coloured of course, like a skivvy and cut the sleeve of and just wear the sleeve on your arn up high enough to hide the tatt under your normal work shirt.
it will look good, people will soon question what is going on there and you will be surprised by the curiosity as to what is hiding under the sleeve.
This is going to be very vague because it really all depends. If the studio can use another artist, and they like your stuff, and you have potential, they may agree to sign you on as an apprentice at no charge but you might have to contract to tattoo there a certain length of time after your apprenticeship is complete. Some do it for free labor around the studio but in my eye that seems to be dwindling.
Many now charge for apprenticeships and those fees vary widely. 1. It shows a stronger committment – money talks 2. They have no room for you in the studio after you are trained. You could expect to pay $4-6K or so. I have not really heard of more. Stay away from week or two tattoo "schools" as a primary source of training.

It depends on where on your arm and what kind of tattoo it is. If it's just a picture on your upper arm then it stays the same. If it's an armband tattoo around your upper arm, then part of it will distort and look funny.
